NAPE wants an investigation into an incident at the MCP Building on Major’s Path last Friday that sent some workers to hospital.
The union only found out about the incident on Saturday.
The building houses the provincial ambulance dispatch system.
Work in the electrical room caused a trip and arc, resulting in what some described as a loud boom or explosion. As a result says NAPE President Jerry Earle, some workers suffered concussive-type injuries.
He says that type of incident can affect hearing and lead to concussion-type protocols.
The union’s concern is how close the station is to the electrical equipment in question, which is only divided by a curtain.
“What was separating these staff and these pieces of electrical equipment? It was something similar to what you would have in your shower, a shower curtain, no door.”
