Newfoundland and Labrador is the first province in Canada to sign on to a new national school food program, but it seems that some students are already taking their own initiative when it comes to getting a hot meal while in class.
Some schools have had to impose policies to prevent students from ordering food delivery services like SkipTheDishes and DoorDash through the apps on their phones.
VOCM News has learned that it’s become a more frequent occurrence, with meals being ordered at schools throughout the day.
As a result, some principals have had to issue advisories to parents reminding them that ordering food through DoorDash or SkipTheDishes is prohibited.
The Department of Education says it supports School Healthy Food Guidelines and the well-being of students and recognizes that food service deliveries can be disruptive to daily school operations.
The department says the decision to allow food deliveries is the responsibility of school administrators.
