The Torbay bypass road has been renamed after the man who championed it, the late, former MHA Kevin Parsons.
Family, friends and MHAs of all stripes filled the main lobby of Confederation Building for Thursday’s ceremony prior to the afternoon sitting of the House of Assemby.
Premier Andrew Furey lauded Parsons for his genuine concern for others, with the highway being a part of that cause.
“So today it is extremely fitting that we are officially naming Route 20A, commonly known as the Torbay bypass road, Kevin Parsons Highway,” Furey said to resounding applause.
Parsons’ former constituency assistant, Barb Cadigan, spoke for the family.
“Kevin’s best quality was his kindness. It came as easy to him as breathing,” she told the gathering, adding “I think we can all attest to that.”
Parsons died in August following a lengthy illness, at the age of just 62.
