Justice Minister Bernard Davis has no concerns with the ability of the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) to fulfil its duties while they await appointment of a new commissioner.
Jackie Lake Kavanagh, who was serving in the role on an interim basis, resigned from the position as of Nov. 1.
The new commissioner is due to be named by Nov. 25.
Director of research and quality assurance with the OIPC, Sean Murray, has raised concerns about how the office can operate in the interim given that there are certain functions that can only be carried out by the commissioner.
Davis says there are no concerns from his perspective about the current functions of the office.
He notes that various pieces of legislation need to be vetted by the office.
He says they don’t want there to be any concerns, which is why they are trying to move the process along as quickly as possible.
