There is going to be some heavy weather overnight and into Sunday morning for eastern parts of the island.
Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for the area from Trinity-Bonavista to Cape Race, including the St. John’s area and Conception Bay.
Large waves and pounding surf will produce higher-than-normal water levels along the coast near high tide tonight and Sunday. Water levels may be near the top or splash over any low-lying coastal infrastructure. Strong northerly winds will develop tonight, with gusts likely near 100 km/h for most areas.
A wind warning is in effect for some coastal areas.
