A man is dead after a tree fell onto a power line on a windy Saturday night, igniting a fire and sending sparks and flames into the air.
The incident happened at about 9:00 outside a house on Byrne’s Lane in Torbay.
The victim was electrocuted and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Two women who were also in the area were sent to hospital for treatment of injuries. There is no update on their condition.
Newfoundland Power says its teams acted quickly and worked with first responders to safely secure the scene. The utility sends its deepest sympathies to those who are grieving at this time.
