Lineworkers are making progress as they restore power to Paradise.
Twenty-seven hundred homes woke up without power early this morning, but that has been whittled down to about 300. Everybody should be back online by about 10:00 this morning.
Homes in Donovan Terrace, Neils Pond and other areas lost power just before 5 a.m. this morning.
The region was slammed with heavy winds gusting up to 110 km/h in some areas and rain through the overnight hours.
Tiffany Cheeks, a meteorologist at the Gander Weather Office, says it was windy right across the island but especially in the east.
Bonavista overnight hit 111 km/h, St. John’s Airport 82, Grates Cove 102 and Pool’s Island peaked at 95 km/h.
Crews have been working through the morning to restore power for thousands.
Numbers have dropped significantly, but the wind remains.#nlwx @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/PMitJXjKtW
