Newfoundland and Labrador is finally recognizing medical radiation technologists as a regulated profession.
On May 1st of 2025 the provincial government will proclaim into force the Health Professions Act for medical radiation technologists.
Medical radiation technologists encompass a variety of professions including those who practice radiological technology, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine technology, and magnetic resonance technology.
Proclaiming the Act into force will help to establish a College of Medical Radiation Technologists that will provide oversight in the public interest and will prevent those who are unqualified from practicing in the field.
NL Health Services has nearly 400 medical radiation technologists, and another 30 x-ray health professionals serving in rural parts of the province.
