A local MP says Ottawa’s recently announced cap on greenhouse gas emissions is a cap on pollution, not production.

Gudie Hutchings was responding to a statement put out by Premier Andrew Furey earlier this week.

He states the province is analyzing the move, but he will not support a cap on oil production.

Hutchings says that is not what the new rules are about, noting that this province has the least carbon-emitting oil in the country.

She says everyone has to work together to make sure credits to the oil companies go back into the province, and encourages everyone to participate in the consultation process, which is open until early in the new year.
