Someone who has been keeping a close eye on the province’s offshore oil and gas development for more than 40 years doesn’t believe the US Trump administration will dramatically impact the local industry.
Rob Strong says despite indications that the newly re-elected President is considering tariffs on US imports, he’s not at all worried that that will affect the province’s oil and gas.
Strong says from what he’s been reading, Trump is unlikely to ‘point the tariff weapon north,’ because it would have such a disruptive impact on the US economy. “I don’t think it’s going to have a negative impact upon the potential for offshore Newfoundland.”
