The FFAW is hosting its Triannual Convention in Gander today.
The last couple of years have been tumultuous ones in the fishery and members have plenty to talk about.
Items on the agenda include the union’s concerns around corporate concentration in the Newfoundland and Labrador fishery, ways to increase processing capacity, and the union’s efforts to return to a collective bargaining process with the right to strike.
Speakers include Fisheries Minister Gerry Byrne, who addresses the fishery workers today.
Incoming president Dwan Street will be sworn in tomorrow afternoon when she gives her maiden speech. Greg Pretty is retiring.
The gathering is at the Quality Hotel in Gander.
