Career criminal Phillip Pynn, accused of smuggling drugs into Her Majesty’s Penitentiary, is seeking bail again.
Pynn, now 39, was charged last year with three counts of drug trafficking, but it was far from a routine bust and seizure.
It’s alleged he was found with about $30,000 worth of drugs on and in him, following a body cavity search by guards at HMP in January of 2023.
They found various drugs including fentanyl, Xanax—used to treat anxiety and panic disorders—and cocaine.
Pynn originally chose to be tried in Supreme Court but later re-elected provincial court upon receipt of the Crown’s evidence against him.
Yesterday, his longtime lawyer Mark Gruchy requested a bail review in Supreme Court while he awaits trial in the new year.
That bail hearing is now set for December 9.
Pynn has dozens of criminal charges and convictions to his name, most notably a manslaughter conviction in the shooting death of his friend Nick Winsor, during a botched robbery in 2011.
