The horrific depravity inflicted on six boys at the hands of Bruce Escott were read aloud in a St. John’s courtroom today.
This, after the 82-year-old pleaded guilty to seven charges, including sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.
The facts tell, in sickening detail, the violent rapes of young boys by older men that conjures images of Mount Cashel.
They confirm a years-long scheme by Escott and co-accused Tony Humby to lure and sexually assault already troubled teens at their east end homes, and in Escott’s taxi cab. The allegations against Humby, who has his trial set for March, have yet to be proven.
Court was told the two men had a pool of boys whom they would have sex with in exchange for cash, drugs, cigarettes or alcohol. Escott would pick them up and bring them to Humby’s house where most of the crimes occurred.
But Escott would also assault them in his cab, forcing them into oral and anal sex, once tying a boy’s hands together so he couldn’t get away while Escott raped him.
It was noted Escott had to cancel one hookup because his grandkids were coming over for a visit.
The victims said while they didn’t want to do any of it, they did so for the money or drugs, and because they had nowhere else to go.
Escott initially said he and Humby were only trying to help the boys because they didn’t have parents and wanted to help keep them out of trouble.
In reality, they were passing them back and forth, using and abusing them like animals, comparing what they were good at, even criticizing one who “had no passion in him.”
The case is now set for Jan. 31 when the Crown and defence will give their submissions on sentence.
