The provincial government is selling off a damaged building on Livingstone Street, which contains four housing units, and the NDP want to know why government is going that route.
Party leader Jim Dinn raised the issue in the provincial legislature on Thursday.
Units Previously Damaged by Fire
The units were damaged in a fire in October 2023, but rather than rebuild or offer the land to a not-for-profit, the government is selling it for what Jim Dinn calls a “bargain basement price.”
Dinn says “it defies logic” and asks Housing Minister John Abbott “why, what in God’s name was he thinking?” Abbott says NLHC looked at their options and determined that it is not the proper site or location, citing current standards for buildings, such as universal design, as the rationale.
Real estate listings for the property are no longer available to view on numerous websites, however one still available on Zillow shows the asking price for the property at $119,900.
