New rules around short-term accommodations, such as Air BnBs, will soon come into force.
Amendments to the Tourist Accommodations Act received Royal Assent in the spring, with delayed proclamation.
The new rules will require hosts who list their primary residences to register with the province.
Short-term rental platforms will also be required to register, share information about their listings with the province, and remove any listing that is not registered.
The government says the changes will help give them a “more complete picture of the scope of short-term rentals” throughout the province.
The province reminds hosts that all short-term accommodation providers must register, and all those who don’t will violate legislation once the act is proclaimed.
So far over 2,700 accommodations have been registered.
