Premier Andrew Furey is doubling down on calls for a meeting with the prime minister following news that US President-elect Donald Trump plans on imposing significant tariffs on the country.
Trump vowed on social media last night that his government would impose a 25 per cent tariff on all imported goods from Canada and Mexico.
Furey posted to social media this morning saying the tariffs would be “devastating” for Newfoundland and Labrador, given that it is the third largest oil producer in the country and an exporter of other goods.
Yesterday, Canada’s Premiers wrote the Prime Minister asking for an urgent meeting to discuss the incoming Trump administration.
