The Information and Privacy Commissioner is siding with the complainant in a dispute over the release of details around the purchase of several properties by the City of St. John’s.
The properties in question are on Goldstone Street and/or Thorburn Road with a price tag of $750,000, as per the 2024 capital budget.
Staff provided some information in response to a request, but withheld five pages of special meetings of council records. That’s when the applicant turned to the freedom of information process.
Privacy commissioner Jackie Lake Kavanagh determined that the city broadly applied a section of the City Act to withhold the entirety of the minutes of the two special meetings of council material regarding the information request.
The complainant wants information on the listing agent for the property, and the names of those who were at the special meetings in question.
Lake Kavanagh has told the city to respond in writing to her within 10 business days.
