The NDP and the PCs are calling out what they say has been a lack of transparency in appointing a new privacy commissioner.
Tory leader Tony Wakeham and NDP leader Jim Dinn held a joint news conference on the issue this morning.
They argue that the process is flawed, noting that they are required by law to receive a roster of qualified candidates that they can review.
Wakeham says 50 people applied for the position, and five were interviewed, but they have only received the name of one candidate.
He says to fulfill their requirements under the act, they should have been given a list of qualified candidates and the quantitative analysis used to determine who they want to go with.
Both Wakeham and Dinn say the issue is not necessarily with the name that’s been brought forward but with the process of getting there.
Dinn says he wants the selection committee to “show their work,” otherwise they are “just rubber stamping it.”
