A group representing students, faculty and staff at Memorial University has written a letter to the Premier and the Minister of Education demanding a meeting with government.
The call comes nearly a week after Memorial University instituted a hiring freeze and restrictions on new spending to address a projected $9.5 million shortfall caused by a drop in international enrollment.
The coalition says the province’s “degradation” of Memorial is a “betrayal” to students and staff at the university.
Premier Furey told VOCM News earlier this week that his ministers plan to reach out to the Faculty Association and Students Union.
