Four people have been arrested after a piece of heavy equipment was used to smash open the RBC bank branch in Holyrood early this morning.
RCMP were called around 3:45 this morning, and arrived to find the backhoe used abandoned at the scene.
Terry, who lives nearby, told VOCM News this morning that he woke up to three loud bangs.
Officers received information that two other vehicles, a dump truck, and a pickup, were involved in the crime and fled the scene.
The RNC were called for assistance and a short time later, members of the Constabulary stopped the suspect vehicles heading east on the Trans Canada near Paddy’s Pond.
The dump truck and pickup were seized and an ATM was recovered from the dump truck. The backhoe, which was stolen from a Holyrood business, was also seized as part of the investigation.
Charges are pending.
The Mayor of Holyrood, Gary Goobie, told VOCM News he’s ‘frustrated and disturbed” by the crime, saying his community will take it “step by step” going forward.
