The capital city is joining forces with the provincial and federal governments in the purchase of new electric buses for the Metrobus fleet over the next ten years.
Upgrades are also being made to the Metrobus Transit’s facilities.
The $50.3 million in joint funding announced today will see the purchase of eight new hybrid buses and nine zero-emission buses as Metrobus starts the process of phasing-out its diesel fleet.
Mayor Danny Breen says the process of modernizing the fleet had already begun.
The eight new hybrid buses will be in addition to eight other buses that starting arriving in November, three of which are already driving routes in the metro region.
