Ottawa is looking at making changes to how airlines compensate passengers in the event of a flight disruption.
The federal government is proposing changes to the Air Passenger Protection Regulations. The changes would require airlines to provide meals to passengers whose flights are delayed by at least two hours, as well as overnight accommodations if necessary.
It would also look to speed up the time it takes to get refunds.
Former C.B.S. Mayor Woody French, one of the catalysts of the Airline Passenger Bill of Rights, told VOCM News the existing policy isn’t doing what it’s supposed to.
“I think now the minister is starting to see the impact that this is having, and the impact, which is negative, is definitely getting people to realize that the Airline Passengers Bill of Rights is not doing what it had been intended to do,” he said.
