The President of the province’s Teacher’s Union doesn’t believe the province is doing enough to support students in the classroom to make up for learning lost during the pandemic.
Trent Langdon says staffing has been an issue for some time and he says some students are still managing to excel, but the majority need extra work, or are struggling and need added support.
The majority of our children are going to need additional supports to get them to the next level, and to get their reading scores up,” says Langdon. “Education and academics have lost significant focus since COVID, because we had to pull back, it was about social and emotional learning. I don’t think that focus, from a societal stance has come back yet.”
