High-purity iron ore was recently added to Canada’s list of 34 critical minerals, and that’s a win-win for the local mining industry.
That’s according to Mining NL’s Amanda McCallum, who says Newfoundland and Labrador is well-positioned to supply the mineral needs of the future.
McCallum says aside from iron ore, this province is home to a wide variety of base metals.
She says at least 26 of those critical minerals can be found here. That list includes base metals, nickel, copper, cobalt, lead, zinc, rare earth elements, uranium.
“So a variety of rich geodiversity and a variety of critical minerals and metals here,” she told VOCM News.
