It was a scramble for one farmer in Bonavista North on the weekend after a fierce storm surge pounded the coastline and threatened to destroy Dana Blackmore’s barns and shed.
Thankfully, Blackmore says she was able to safely evacuate her two horses and a mule kept at the site.
Blackmore, who lives in Pound Cove, which is part of New-Wes-Valley, is close to the water and was keeping a close eye on things as high tide approached Sunday morning.
She had gone into the barn to give the horses their feed and returned to the house for a short break. Within minutes, everything went “crazy,” and she and others scrambled to get the animals to safety. “It’s something like I’ve never seen before, and hope not to witness again.”
