The Town of Carbonear is considering further action to address a low-lying area of town following this weekend’s storm surge.
Mayor Frank Butt says the breakwater along the main Beach Road held up against nature’s fury, despite the fact that waves deposited huge amounts of rocks and debris on the road – but a portion of shoreline on the South Side known as Taylor’s Beach is even more problematic.
Butt says they’re considering options to ensure that the Lower South Side Road at Taylor’s Beach isn’t inundated the next time tides rise like they did this weekend.
He says they’re looking at the possibility of raising the road up in the low-lying area. “We could actually raise the road up a little bit there, put some armour stone out toward the ocean there to protect the road.”
