The number of weapons seizures in the province continues to rise – related to organized criminal activity and the illegal drug trade.
Specialized RNC units have been involved in a number of recent seizures in the capital city region, and RNC Constable James Cadigan is once again urging the public to report any unusual or suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.
He says investigations regarding criminal activity can often take time.
“These officers are very experienced and well-trained to investigate these events lawfully,” says Cadigan, who points to a recent drug and weapons bust on Salisbury Street in St. John’s.
“They are very complex investigations,” Cadigan says, which “have resulted in the seizure of weapons such as firearms, and other weapons, such as machetes…these are the types of items that are being possessed by the criminal element.”
