Ontario Premier Doug Ford is dismissing U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s contention that the United States doesn’t need anything from Canada.
Trump this week, threatened “economic force” on Canada, doubling-down on his intention to impose 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods bound for the United States.
Canadian premiers are meeting in Toronto in the coming days to discuss the latest developments and are planning a trip to Washington in February.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says Canada is not the problem, and calls Trump misinformed.
“Right now,” Ford told reporters in Ontario, “we ship 1.4 million barrels of crude oil down to the U.S. Sixty per cent of their energy imports are coming from Canada. We keep the lights on with a million and a half homes and businesses…we have critical minerals that get shipped across the border every day for their manufacturing capabilities in their military, not to mention the uranium that gets shipped to the States for their weapons.”
