It didn’t take long for the education critic’s phone to light up with calls from concerned parents after government revealed that the PowerSchool application had been hacked.
Government first learned about the breach Tuesday afternoon from the company responsible. PowerSchool is used in many schools right across North America, and it isn’t just this province that is affected.
An investigation into the situation is ongoing.
Paul Dinn says concerned parents started calling him not long after the news became public with concerns about what this could mean for their children’s information.
Dinn, who has heard that the breach happened as early as December 28, says he does have concerns about the situation, particularly in a perceived delay in PowerSchool relaying the information to the province. Dinn suggests that there should be people who monitor for those types of situations on a regular basis.
