Warning: Details in the following story are disturbing.
A St. John’s man has been sentenced to eight years in prison in a severe case of intimate partner violence.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kordell Dixon broke into his ex-partner’s Mount Pearl home in the middle of the night, put a knife to her throat and raped her — twice.
He was under strict court orders to stay away from her, having stalked her wherever she went, with a clear history of ignoring those orders before.
But what he did in the early-morning hours of November 4th, 2023, with young children present, was nothing short of brutality.
It was just after 1 a.m. when Dixon broke in and attacked his ex-partner, trying to knock her out with pills and other sedatives in a syringe.
She fought back, trying to jump out a window to escape, but to no avail.
Dixon fled, but was arrested two days later and charged with sexual assault, criminal harassment, break-in with intent, forcible confinement, and again breaching court orders.
“He went there to get laid,” said Judge James Walsh, citing the facts of the case, noting the victim did what she could through the courts, but added “court orders obviously mean nothing to Mr. Dixon.”
Walsh said in his 40-year legal career this was one of the most serious sexual assaults he’s ever dealt with.
And that was reflected in his decision last year to reject a proposed four-year sentence, saying it was too low, leading to the eight-year sentence he imposed this morning.
With time already served, Dixon has almost six years left to go.
“What happens then?” asked a relative of the victim outside court. “He’ll just come after her again.”
