RCMP have released a timeline in connection with the province’s latest theft targeting a bank ATM with the use of heavy equipment.
Harbour Grace RCMP are investigating the latest incident at the Scotiabank drive-thru in Carbonear.
A stolen pickup truck and two stolen excavators were used to commit the crime.
Police say a commercial pickup was stolen from a gated compound on Goff Avenue in Carbonear shortly after 1:00 this morning.
A short time later, two excavators, parked on a commercial property next to Scotiabank were stolen.
The alarm sounded at the Scotiabank in Carbonear at 1:25, and when police arrived, the culprits had already done their damage, with the two excavators still at the scene. The ATM was removed from the building and loaded into the stolen pickup which was seen driving east from Brigus Junction to Middle Gull Pond around 6:45 this morning.
Police found the pickup abandoned in a gravel pit off the Trans Canada and it was recovered by Holyrood RCMP. Police believe the suspects moved the ATM from the stolen truck to another vehicle.
Business owners and residents of Carbonear are being asked to check for any available surveillance footage from the area, while cabin owners in the area of Brigus Junction are being asked the same.

RCMP in Harbour Grace are investigating the province’s latest smash and grab bank theft with the use of a piece of heavy equipment.
The latest incident occurred overnight. An excavator was used to smash through the drive-thru at Scotiabank in Carbonear, removing the ATM from the side of the building and leaving a gaping hole where the bank machine once sat.
The excavator was left at the scene.
Meanwhile, RCMP are searching for a pickup reported stolen and believed to have been used during the commission of the crime.
Police are looking for a red, GMC Duramax diesel pickup with a Clay Oates Landscaping logo on the side.
