Long-time career politician Yvonne Jones is set to make an announcement this morning at her constituency office in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Jones started elected life as the mayor of Mary’s Harbour, moving on to provincial politics as the MHA for Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair and as a provincial cabinet minister and Leader of the provincial Liberal Party.
In recent years, she served as the MP for Labrador in the House of Commons, while waging two battles against breast cancer.
Jones’ announcement comes after MP and federal Minister Gudie Hutchings announced her intention not to seek reelection, joining a growing list of Liberal MPs from this province who have signaled that they don’t intend to run again. That includes Seamus O’Regan, Churrence Rogers, and Ken McDonald.
This morning’s announcement comes at 11:00 a.m. Labrador time. VOCM News is watching the developments and will have details as they become available.
