The provincial PC Party has posted a video to social media explaining why they walked out of the vote on the Churchill Falls MOU in the House of Assembly yesterday.
All week long the Tories have been saying that they want an independent review of the document.
Government has set up an oversight panel to be led by Consumer Advocate Dennis Browne. That has won the support of the NDP and Independent MHAs, but the PCs don’t think it goes far enough.
When it came time for the Legislature to vote on the MOU, the entire PC caucus filed out. It did not affect the outcome of the vote, however, which was 25-0.
In the video posted to social media after the fact, PC Leader Tony Wakeham explained why party members walked out instead of just voting against the MOU.
He says they have been asking for an independent review and for the vote to be delayed, but government didn’t go for it.
“So we took a stand, we took a stand for the people.”
