Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell says the government can’t let the Education Accord sit on a desk and collect dust.
The interim report was released publicly on Thursday, and the final report, which includes recommendations for government, will be completed by March 31st.
Critics worry that the document to be released in the spring will go the same way as many others that came before it – sitting on a shelf without any action.
Howell says the way the education system is unfolding indicates that action is needed now.
Co-chair Dr. Anne Burke says the level of consultation is what makes this report different from the others.
She says it has been a very engaged and open process. She believes that is why this report will be successful.
NDP leader Jim Dinn and PC education critic Paul Dinn are not convinced, with the latter saying there has been report after report.
Paul Dinn says he doesn’t have confidence that this won’t be another report that sits on the shelf. The NDP leader, meanwhile, says the government needs to “put their money where their mouth is,” and that the success of the report will come down to resourcing.
