NL Health Services says water damage caused by “routine sprinkler testing” means the MRI at the Health Sciences Centre is temporarily out of service.
The health authority is now working with the supplier to determine the next steps and see whether repair is possible or if the machine needs to be replaced while the associated costs are being considered.
Earlier this week, the health authority announced that it had changed the schedules of the MRI machines at St. Clare’s and the Janeway to operate 24/7 until February.
Scheduled appointments are being rebooked.
A portable MRI is now being secured and is expected to be in place at the Health Sciences by next month.
