A municipal leader is questioning why provincial politicians are held to a different standard than those elected to municipal council.
Mike Tiller, who unsuccessfully sought the Liberal nomination ahead of a byelection in the district of Fogo-Cape Freels, is responding to the PC caucus’s decision not to vote on the MOU between NL and Quebec on the Upper Churchill.
Tiller, the mayor of New-Wes-Valley, says he has no intention to run in the next provincial election, but the fact that the official Opposition chose not to vote, doesn’t make sense.
“As municipal leaders, councillors, et cetera, we are mandated to vote on motions that are brought into the chambers. Unless we are in a direct conflict, we have to vote. And my concern is our provincial leaders, who are paid to represent the citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador, are able to leave proceedings, and not cast their vote.”
