St. John’s is going to be installing cameras in an area of the west end to catch those who pollute and illegally dump garbage.
A community cleanup on the weekend, which included some members of council, netted much of the evidence.
Ward 3 Councillor Greg Noseworthy, who has used the trails in the George’s Pond area for hiking and biking for years, says illegal dumping is having an environmental impact in the area.
He says the city is going to enforcement monitoring.
He says when the west end was being developed, it became an illegal dumping area and some people are still using it for that purpose. But he says it’s a pristine area used for a lot of recreational activities including fishing and walking.
