The Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philips says it is opening up the municipal decision-making process to improve access and transparency for residents.
Town and city councils operate under a committee structure designed according to the business at hand and then make recommendations to the council. Though not binding, the recommendations are usually accepted by council.
Mayor Carol McDonald says by opening the committee meetings to the public and introducing quarterly town halls, they’re taking proactive steps to strengthen the connection with residents.
Mayor McDonald says the changes will allow residents to gain greater insight into town operations.
