The creation of Memorial University a century ago “changed the course of the history of the province,” according to a MUN executive.
The university is celebrating 100 years in 2025, with various initiatives planned to mark the milestone.
Lisa Browne, Vice President of Administration, Finance and Advancement at MUN, says the university was started as a tribute to those who died in World War I and subsequent wars and agrees that it was also an investment in the future.
Browne says that when looking at the social determinants of health, education is at the top of the list.
She says it has impacts in terms of income and feelings of self-worth, and it impacts future generations. She says it is important to look at Memorial’s past but also to look at what the next 100 years will look like.
