The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has released a Canada – U.S. Trade Tracker in light of threatened tariffs on Canadian goods entering the United States.
The Chamber calls the threat of 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian goods crossing the border “the most urgent threat facing Canadian and American businesses today.”
New modelling from the chamber’s Business Data Lab suggests that tariffs would come at a huge economic cost, and reduce real annual income by $1,900 CAD per Canadian and $1,300 USD per American.
The trade tracker is designed to help businesses strengthen the “world-class: trade relationship between the two countries.
The tracker shows that the value of the trade of goods between Newfoundland and Labrador and the United States represents $5.4 billion CAD with more than 16,000 jobs supported by this province’s trade with the US.
Some 257 Newfoundland and Labrador companies export goods to the United States with New Jersey as the province’s largest trading partner.
