The 2025 Canada Games have partnered with the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board for a sustainability program aimed at making the games green.
The MMSB is giving the games $500,000 to sponsor the initiative.
Host Society CEO Karen Sherriffs says they will be incorporating a number of things into the games.
Among them will be water bottle filling stations and a food diversion program. With over 5,000 people to be fed, they want to make sure no food goes to waste.
Sherriffs says the sustainability program will help set the tone for future games, so they are doing a lot of data collection.
She says there will be “baseline measurements” in a number of areas, which will be used to set benchmarks.
Sherriffs says they are speaking with the Canada Games Council to ensure the program continues for future games.
