The Transportation Safety Board has released a statement on an incident at Halifax airport involving a PAL De Havilland CHC-8-402 airplane on Dec. 28th.
The TSB says an imbalance caused by a blown tire produced a vibration that caused the left main landing gear to collapse during which the propeller came into contact with the runway, causing a fire.
The tire blew apart on takeoff from St. John’s, but investigators learned that the crew was not aware of the damage. Fragments of the busted tire were later found on the tarmac in St. John’s.
