Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP are crediting police dog Phox with helping nab a man allegedly involved in a break and enter on New Year’s Day.
Police were first notified of the incident just before 6 p.m. that day.
They say a resident of a home noticed an unknown man inside, and once the suspect was confronted he fled on foot with a number of stolen items.
Police later received information that the man had weapons.
Phox and his handler tracked the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Joel Rich Jr., and he was arrested a short distance away.
RCMP say he was found to be in possession of a bow and arrow and a knife, which were seized.
Rich has appeared in court and remains in custody.
He’s facing charges of break and enter, theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of break-in tools and instruments, possession of property obtained by crime, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
