The Registered Nurses’ Union says government’s focus, when it comes to immigration, needs to be on health care.
Ottawa has slashed government’s yearly immigration caps, down to 1,525 annually for the next three years. Last year’s cap was 3,050.
Immigration Minister Sarah Stoodley says that puts government in a difficult decision, as they will have to decide who gets in from a variety of industries.
RNU President Yvette Coffey says government officials need to get together and determine where the priority should be.
From her perspective, it should firmly be on health care, and she believes the majority of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians would agree with that sentiment.
