It’s going to be a tall order to try to find a replacement facility for the Boys and Girls Club in St. Anthony after fire destroyed a 100-year-old structure near the hospital built during the Grenfell Mission.
Area MHA and former St. Anthony Mayor Krista Lynn Howell says White Hills Academy is filling the after-school gap for now, but she is confident that the community will come together and come up with a long-term solution.
The Annex burnt down Wednesday night, however the fire departments in the area were able to keep the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.
Howell, the education minister, says the Boys and Girls Club in St. Anthony is on the level of similar facilities in larger centres across Canada in terms of programs and services.
She says they only have a limited budget to work with, but do magic with it. She says they have programming for children and youth in terms of body positivity, music lessons, they also have musical instruments and a recording studio.
