The opposition immigration critic is calling for the government’s UK soccer sponsorship program to be cancelled following news that the province’s total immigration numbers for the year have been slashed in half.
The province announced the partnership with UK football club Barrow FC in June of last year.
The province’s logo is displayed on the club’s jerseys, with the government touting it as a great way to get eyes on the province and promote immigration.
The PCs have long been critical of the initiative, calling the $171,000 deal a “waste of money.”
Now that the province has had its immigration caps dramatically reduced, Lloyd Parrott is calling for the program to be scrapped immediately.
Parrott also wants the government to release all of the costs associated with the initiative, including an associated trip over to the UK, to “let the people know exactly what it costs for nothing, because that’s how much we got out of it – nothing.”
