The provincial government spent over $29-million on overtime across various departments during the 2023-24 fiscal year.
That’s according to an access to information document published on the provincial government’s website.
According to the document, all cabinet records were excluded from the information provided.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure spent the most on overtime – just shy of over $ 14-million for the year.
Justice and Public Safety paid out $9.3-million, CSSD incurred $2.5-million in overtime, and Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture doled out $1.5-million.
The overtime includes various different subsections of each department.
For example, the number for the Justice department encompasses 1,500 employees across five line branches.
Those branches are courts and corporate services, emergency services, legal services, public prosecutions, and public safety and correctional services
