A national campaign to help raise money to secure safe, affordable housing for people in need is coming to Newfoundland with its Hockey Helps the Homeless inaugural pro-am tournament this spring.
The organization has already granted more than $28 million to charities across Canada.
Senior Manager of Business Development with Hockey Helps the Homeless, Emma Langlois, says local players can play with NHL stars.
All of the net proceeds from the tournament, to be held on Thursday, May 8 at the Paradise Double Ice Complex, will go to Choices for Youth.
Jen Crowe of Choices for Youth says they’re thrilled with the partnership.
She says last year 150 young people with affordable and safe housing. This year, 200 people are on their waiting list looking for a safe and affordable place to stay.
The Honourary Chair of HHTH Newfoundland and Labrador is retired NHLer Terry Ryan.
