A Lewisporte woman is shaken up, but lucky to be alive, after being struck by an erratic driver on the Trans Canada in Terra Nova National Park on Tuesday.
Carolyn Parsons was on her way home to Lewisporte Tuesday morning from Port de Grave.
She says she chose a good driving day for her trip and everything was fine, until she noticed a blue Hyundai driving straight toward her in the park.
She says the woman was in her lane and heading toward her head-on. She laid on the horn, but the Hyundai kept coming. She didn’t have a lot of options because of the guard rail, but she was able to pull over onto the shoulder just enough to avoid a head-on collision.
The Hyundai side-swiped her vehicle and drove away. Parsons says she was still in shock when other drivers came to her assistance to see if she was alright. It was then she learned that the vehicle had come close to hitting numerous other vehicles before finally coming to a stop in a collision near Port Blandford.
RCMP say the driver in question appears to have suffered some kind of a medical event. Parsons says she’s thankful no-one was more seriously harmed, or killed.
