One man was taken into custody following an RCMP operation in Carbonear yesterday afternoon that involved members of the tactical unit.

Adelaide Street in Carbonear was closed to traffic while police issued a directive for area residents to shelter in place.

A short time later, police took one man into custody and residents were free to go about their business once again.

More information is expected today.

A police presence is expected to remain in the area while the investigation continues.
